A quick follow up to my most recent post on staying active

Two quick additions to my previous post regarding how to stay active during a lockdown sort of situation:

Standing

I use a small, foldable step stool to elevate my laptop so I can set up a “standing desk.” I use the stool on my kitchen counter and my dresser. Standing, for whatever reason, helps me keep better posture versus when I’m sitting. When my wife or son is using it, I sometimes stack books on top of my ironing board to achieve a similar standing desk set up.

Combo workout

In my previous post, I split out my days by upper, lower, and cardio. I don’t always stick to the regimen. To get me back on track, I combine elements from each day into one workout.

  • The same warmup

  • slow pushups, where I hold at the bottom of the press, and only come back up about a quarter of the way

  • reverse planks

  • slow squats (similar to the slow pushup)

  • planks

Then I’ll cool down with some light shadow boxing (maybe a few minutes), followed by some light stretching.

And one more small anecdote: since we’ve been working from home full time, my wife, son, and I have all worked out together a few days per week every morning! It’s a lot of fun, and my son seems to love “exercising” with us!

I hope everyone is staying fit, safe, and healthy!
