If you’ve read my post about Making space for happiness on my other blog, you might know that I like having structure to my day so that I have space and time for things like exercise, meditation, and entertainment. And, if you’re a fellow (or soon to be parent of a newborn), you might also know that having structure in the day is something of a luxury, at least initially (first few weeks to months).

Personal update

My family is happy to announce the arrival of our second child, a baby girl! Even though it was only a short while ago that we welcomed our son, I’ve seemed to forget (or perhaps blocked out?) how chaotic, and unstructured, the days can be. Which leads me to…

Trying to take care of myself

Someone recently got us this mug. It’s funny and true. Jokes aside, it’s easy for me to forget to take care of myself when I feel like I’m constantly changing a diaper, feeding a toddler, or avoiding toys on the floor.

In an effort to take care of myself, I came up with a simple mnemonic: 1-2-3. This stands for one minute of meditation, followed by two minutes of stretching or exercise, three times per day.

That’s it. I’m setting myself what I think is an achievable goal. So far, I haven’t been very good at the three-times-per-day goal, but I usually meditate for more than a minute, and exercise for more than two minutes.

Here are a couple of old posts with some easy stretches and exercises.

And that’s all I got for now, because I have to get back to the chaos!
